Thomas Francis Farr was born on 19th February, 1914, at 81, Cochrane Street, Bathgate. He died on 15th June, 1980. He was known as ‘Chic’. His father Bobby had been a professional footballer.
Tommy began his career with Bathgate Auld Toon Thistle* then went to Blackburn Athletic in 1933. He signed for Bradford Park Avenue in September 1934 and played his first game for them against Notts County in November 1934. He retired in 1950 having played 315 games for Bradford Park Avenue.
From Wikipedia: Bradford Park Avenue was formed in 1907 and moved from the Southern League into the Football League in 1908. They were promoted to the First Division in 1914 but demoted to the Third Division in 1922. They won the Third Division North title in 1928 and remained in the Second Division until 1950.
A lady called Katy Farr often visited my Granny. Katy was, I think, Tommy’s sister.
*Over the years, the centre of Bathgate has shifted to the East. I was born in 1940 in Haig Crescent and we referred to the old area of Bathgate, which would have included Cochrane Street, as The Auld Toon.
